Good Morning, Monster: A Therapist Shares Five Heroic Stories of Emotional Recovery, by Catherine Gildiner.
One of my faves! I loved this book so much. It really spoke to the inner psychotherapist in me that’s begging me to make a career change but will inevitably be silenced for the next 7 years at minimum. The writing was efficient, the stories were heartbreakingly honest, and what the reader will receive from all 5 of these accounts is intangible.
I don’t personally view resilience as something to champion because I don’t think the human condition should be so rough that we have to build an ability to bounce back from it. I do think this book laid bare just how dense resiliency can be: nothing can get through it. The very nature of resiliency is that it is impassable, and that is something I can champion. This book showed how much resiliency is found in vulnerability and in the willingness to learn new and try again. I loved it dearly.
