We Need to Talk about Kevin, by Lionel Shriver.
This is one of the best books I’ve ever read, and one of my favorites. The writing was a bit overindulgent in some areas, but everything else — the cadence, the insight, the humanistic qualities, the honesty about marriage and parenthood — made up for the long droning that seemed to overwhelm the pages at times. The movie doesn’t do it any justice; this is such a required read for anyone who loves to read, loves to get lost in a story, and loves to find something—anything—in all the mundane we so often take for granted.
